Whenever I am asked to give an illustrated talk on the topic 'In Search of Lord Krishna', I am invariably asked two relevant questions. The first one is, in spite of the hoary traditions of India. Why are we unable to unearth straightforward evidences to prove the historicity of our two great epics, Ramayana and Mahabharata.This question is raised time and again because excavations that are being conducted in Jerusalem and in other Graeco-Roman cities have yielded direct evidences of their past that corroborated ancient literature. The second question is whether Lord Krishna is a historical personality or an incarnation based on modern research. It is interesting that this question has gained momentum only in the last two centuries due to the prejudiced research done by western scholars who were unwilling to accept that India had a much older history and existence as a nation with a developed civilisation than their own 2000 year old history.
